Personally,  I like techno.   Only thing is, when it plays constantly and there isn't a lot of variety  (do you have any idea how many times I've heard that techno mix of 'Tiny Dancer'?) it gets really old.

I think switching things around now and then would be a good idea.  Heck, better yet, pop off some REAL gamer music.  Naturally, I'm talking video game music.  What self-respecting gamer doesn't enjoy game music?

Of course, we use XM Satellite Radio and there isn't a channel for game music.  But, there's several stations via internet that do nothing but play game music, old and new.

Might be something to keep in mind?

Man, I've always loved the tunes of Megaman.  I, personally, think 2 and 3 had the best music.

it depends what I'm playing on what music I listen to.

When i'm playing games like Counterstrike I listen to techno music 98% of the time but when i'm PvPing in MMOs i gotta listen to more of a metal type music, anything from older metal like metallica or newer stuff like all that remains but usually something a little harder when PLaying mmos over fps games usaully people tell me i'm weird and that its the other way around for them. There's nothing like getting hyped up and smashing face with my Faith Hammer.

haha wierd cuz when i play fps' like halo i prefer music like metallica, bring me the horizon, dir en grey, and all that screamo stuff and when i play my mmo's i usually listen to more techno or electronica. but whatever works for you. it's hard to pick a good all around music station for a gaming center and i think techno is the best you can get =)

I got one. If anyone here has seen the CG movie "Last Order" made by Square Enix, you might recognize this one.

It's simply titled Last Order, by Takeharu Ishimoto. It's a great instrumental, and it gets my adrenaline pumping whenever I hear it. I've modded it into a few PC games I play... the results are amazing.

It is simply impossible to please everyone's taste in music.  The standard at LAN centers nationwide is techno; however, many people dislike the constant thumping.  I think the best option is to just keep the volume at an acceptable level to avoid causing headaches for those who are bothered by it.

This is the #1 reason we have our music lower than alot of centers.  We try to find the balance between allowing the music to help the energy of the facility and not annoying those who do not like techno.

We are looking into a jukebox type system where you can change the music much like you could in a jukebox type setup.

Another option that is currently available to our users is that on the PC and Xbox you can utilize USB devices to listen to your own taste in music.  If the music is publically heard, such as on an Xbox 360, the music must be of good taste though.

Music is an art form whose medium is sound organized in time. Common elements of music are pitch (which governs melody and harmony), rhythm (and its associated concepts tempo, meter, and articulation), dynamics, and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture. The word derives from Greek μουσική (mousike), "(art) of the Muses".[1]

The creation, performance, significance, and even the definition of music vary according to culture and social context. Music ranges from strictly organized compositions (and their recreation in performance), through improvisational music to aleatoric forms. Music can be divided into genres and subgenres, although the dividing lines and relationships between music genres are often subtle, sometimes open to individual interpretation, and occasionally controversial. Within "the arts", music may be classified as a performing art, a fine art, and auditory art.

To people in many cultures, music is inextricably intertwined into their way of life. Greek philosophers and ancient Indians defined music as tones ordered horizontally as melodies and vertically as harmonies. Common sayings such as "the harmony of the spheres" and "it is music to my ears" point to the notion that music is often ordered and pleasant to listen to. However, 20th-century composer John Cage thought that any sound can be music, saying, for example, "There is no noise, only sound."[2] According to musicologist Jean-Jacques Nattiez, "the border between music and noise is always culturally defined—which implies that, even within a single society, this border does not always pass through the same place; in short, there is rarely a consensus.… By all accounts there is no single and intercultural universal concept defining what music might be, except that it is 'sound through time'."[3]
